TOP 3 TEAMS OF THE MONTH:

Seattle Mariners: The Mariners made another four trades in the month of January, adding to their grand total of eleven now this offseason. In January, the Mariners acquire a pair of solid starters in All-Star Yovanni Gallardo and left-hander Drew Smyly. They replaced Nathan Karns and Seth Smith with speedy outfielder Jarrod Dyson. The Mariners, however, did part with some prospects: #5 Gohara, #25 Burrows, #13 Yarbrough, Carlos Vargas, and Mallex Smith.

Tampa Bay Rays: The Rays were surprisingly active in January, both on the free agent and trade fronts. On the free agent side, they inked Colby Rasmus to join their outfield jam and added a quality reliever in Shawn Tolleson for cheap. On the trade front, they parted with Drew Smyly, Logan Forsythe, and former first-round pick Mikie Mahtook. In return, they added yet another outfielder in Mallex Smith which made Mahtook expendable. Besides Mallex Smith, they acquired two Mariners’ prospects as well as a top-100 prospect and future ace Jose De Leon from the Dodgers. The Rays add to their ever-growing young talented rotation that already includes Archer, Snell, and Odorizzi.

Oakland Athletics: The Athletics were active on the free agent market, signing 3 players to major league deals and 2 players with upside to minor-league deals. They reunited with Rajai Davis and Santiago Casilla on short-term deals as well as Trevor Plouffe. The Athletics also signed Alejandro De Aza and Ross Detwiler to minor-league deals. Both players could end up contributing to the major-league team in 2017.
